32 inch LED TV's are here
Have you heard of LED TV's? They're a new type of LCD TV that use an LED backlit panel to enhance your viewing.
Along with superb images handling at high speeds, these new models seem to be moving away from the old Dynamic
Contrast Ratio seen in old LCD TV's to new technologies, including Samsung's Mega Contrast. Compared to the old
DCR, some of these newer models are being quoted as having contrast ratio's of up to 3,000,000:1!
Right now, the main manufacturers of LED models are Samsung and Sony, with the former being the only company to
produce 32 inch LED's (the Samsung UE32B6000 and UE32B7020). LED backlit systems have been around for a number
of years now but the techonology has only recently become cheap enough to use in mass production of LCD TV's.
Probably the best known model on the market is the Sony KDL40ZX1 which was launched earlier this year with much
fanfare. Unfortunately, there were a number of limitations, including the high price tag and limited HDMI ports,
which put many potential buyers off.
Samsung LEDs hit the market
As many of you already know, Samsung have cornered the LED TV market by launching a range of models, both full
HD and HD Ready, at a price that has attracted many buyers. Not only do the prices met buyers budgets but the
inclusion of features previously only seen on high models has helped to make the launch successful. The Samsung
Series 7 is one example of this; with 1080HD support, this range of TV's has been selling well across all size
ranges: from 32 inch up to 55 inch.
Samsung's early entry into this market has seen them capture the majority stake, for now. Other companies, such
as LG and Sharp, have kept a keen eye on the take up rate of these new HDTV's and recent announcements show that
these competitors feel that the time is right to enter the market.
32 LED TVs being neglected!
Although LG and Sony are produced LED televisions, the 32 inch screen size seems to have been neglected. Currently,
manufacturers seem intent on grabbing a slice of the 40 inch+ market. This seems logical, as, larger models with a
greater range of features and capabilities will return larger profits for the makers. Only Sharp seems to be interest
in the 32 LED TV market right now as their recent announcements on the imminent
launch of the LE600/LE700 range shows (there's a 32 inch model in this range).
Many buyers will probably grumble and rightly so; the 32 LCD TV range is one the best selling sizes of flat screen
TV in the UK, mainly because of the price to feature ratio. You can understand why many of us, including me, would
want to get our hands on one of these new LED models that will actually fit in our living rooms!
Don't panic!. There will be more models hitting the market soon. As manufacturers see the demand,
and competition, grow we will start to see more and more 32 inch LED TV's becoming available. In the meantime, the
likes of the Philips 37PFL7603D are still going strong so if you want to stick the tried and tested LCD CCFL format
you'll find it hard to find a better rated TV.
